旺角点心 Mongkok Dim Sum @ Geylang

Mongkok Dim Sum has been located at this location for many years since the days when I frequent Zouk. Economical and relatively good dim sum is served here. As this Dim Sum is opened till the wee hours, it's popular with "night owls".

It's right opposite the popular Geylang Beef Hor Fun and Fried Oyster Omelette. Though this peculiar area is regularly regarded as Singapore's red light district, it does has it's distinct character. If you don't mind sitting beside the busy Geylang Road to have your meal, you'll have the best seat to soak in the peculiar ambience of the area.

After our Friday tennis lesson, it's time to stuff our gourges!

芋角 Deep Fried Yam Paste
Crispy, tasty, but a bit greasy .....

粉卷 Steamed Rice Rolls
There's shrimp filled ones and bbq pork filled ones. It was tasty but the sauce was a bit too salty.

煲仔饭 Claypot Porridge
Porridge here was tasty and fragrant from cooking in a claypot. There's a choice of chicken, fish, pork or the century egg porridge.

灌汤角 Double Boiled Dumpling Soup
Of course this cannot be compared to the one we had in Tung Lok Signature but was tasty enough.

蒸肉咸蛋饭 Steamed Rice with Minced Pork and Salted Egg
We thought this was better than the one we had in Soup restaurant. Dig deep, mix well, the salted egg is buried beneath the meat patty.

扣肉包 Pork Belly Bun
This pork belly bun was quite different from the typical ones that I have eaten. It's steamed and then pan fried. But I still prefer the typical form of the pork belly bun.

箩菠糕 Pan Fried Carrot Cake
This is typical dim sum dish nowadays. It's soft, fragrant and had little bits of Chinese sausage.

腐皮卷 Deep Fried Bean Curd Skin with Shrimp Paste
This version of the deep fried bean curd skin was flatter than the typical ones. It made this dish ultimately crispy but quite greasy though.
