Tom Ton @ The Central ............... Kuro Buta, Berkshire Pork.

My sister-in-law gave us a treat recently as she had a promotion at work. My wife and I were given the task of choosing a lunch place and we chose Tom Ton @ The Central. Tom Ton is known for its Kuro Buta, Berkshire pork (from a breed of black pig). The Berkshire pork dates back more than 300 years from the house of Windsor and is prized for its exceptional flavour, juiciness and tenderness. It is the preferred pork for British royalties and the Japanese emperor.

At Tom Ton, the Kuro Buta can be prepared in different forms, the shabu shabu (steamboat), tonkatsu (deep fried) and even for their ramen.

We have chosen.........

Kuro Buta shabu shabu for six of us to share. The portion is actually meant for two person.

I ordered a kuro buta tonkatsu set with miso sauce.

Some of us have the curry kuro buta tonkatsu set and a kuro buta spicy ramen.

In addition, we have a fried shrimp as appetizer and a soft shell crab sushi to share. These 2 dishes are alright but nothing spectacular. The rice covering the soft shell crab is is not packed tight. I still prefer the soft shell crab sushi at Akashi restaurant (Raffles link, Vivo City and Paragon shopping centre)

The kuro buta is indeed tender and flavourful even if prepared in different ways mentioned above. It's a must try.

The original outlet is at the basement of Liang Court which serves almost the same fare. The outlet in Liang court is underging some changes to bring to us more variety of Japanese food. Check the website for details.
